Where's the Unmadeup blog gone?

It's just moved elsewhere. Unmadeup started in 2006 as a blog inviting short non-fiction contributions from all-comers. New non-fiction contributions to the blog are welcome. You can find it here.

What's coming up?

In May 2008 we'll be publishing The Illustrated Brighton Moment, an illustrated collection of non-fiction stories edited by novelist Susanna Jones and illustrator Lawrence Zeegen. The Brighton Moment first happend during the 2005 Brighton Festival Fringe. It is a way of bringing together published writers living in Brighton to write - and read aloud - true stories about the town they live in. In May 2007 the Sussex Arts Club hosted a second Brighton Moment - produced by authors Susanna Jones and Alison MacLeod and hosted by writer and broadcaster Annabel Giles - and featuring Brighton-based authors including Helen Zahawi, Jeff Noon, Julie Burchill, Daniel Raven and Peter James. In 2008, the third Brighton Moment will be take place at the Komedia Club as part of the Brighton Festival.

Unmadeup Editions

Unmadeup is an independent publisher of narrative non-fiction — true stories. Books are just one part of what we do. Today, publishing can mean creating a website or a podcast; or it can mean printing a story onto wallpaper and fixing it onto a toilet wall, say. It can mean producing a conventional print run book, or a unique illustrated limited edition. It's about finding new ways to connect the reader to the story.

41 Places

41 Places was a special exhibition created by William Shaw and Unmadeup for the Brighton Festival 2007. Working with designer Wolfströme and art installation company Standard 8, Shaw installed 41 true stories around the centre of Brighton. It was featured on BBC Radio 4's Front Row - where it was described as, "a unique literary experience." Hear the complete interview here.
