The Andean tourist complex Fresh Air boasts it’s a place where you can “breathe the pure mountain air.” Last week in one of his chalets owner Daniel Rosales found two guests not breathing at all. One of the bullet-bloodied corpses turns out to be the Colombian drug lord Wilber Varela, aka “Soap”.

This miscellany of the month's less celebrated news is compiled by William Shaw and illustrated by Steve Larder.In 1906 the critic Félix Fénéon wrote a column for the Parisian newspaper Le Matin called Nouvelles En Trois Lignes, which translates simultaneously as "News In Three Lines" and "Novellas In Three Lines".
